Chris Woakes is an integral part to the England Cricket Team, performing well in the 2017-2018 Ashes Test Match series against Australia, and is now preparing for the ODI’s in New Zealand. As a bowling all rounder and MASHIE Ambassador, Chris, 28, spoke to us about the two sports close to his (and our) hearts, Cricket and Golf.
Playing at four out of the five venues in the 2017-2018 Ashes Series with an unfortunate defeat by Australia, Chris reflected on this saying “England can learn from the example Australia have set”. “We’re constantly trying to improve, and the players are honest enough to say where we’ve gone wrong, where we need to improve and where we need to keep trying to challenge ourselves. This gives us some good direction moving forward.”
Although Chris missed out on the 5th Test Match at Sydney Cricket Ground due to a left side injury, he expects to be fit for the One Day International series that follows later this month in New Zealand. Chris who is in the ODI squad and the England Test squad, said that “morale is high” and “we look forward to coming together as a team and throwing everything at it”.
Moving on from Cricket, we asked Chris about what he was looking forward to after his jam-packed season. “I’m so pleased to have the opportunity of doing something I love for my career but I’m also looking forward to spending some time at home with family and friends; hopefully with a few rounds of Golf”. Noticeably passionate about our historically British sport, we thought we would ask Chris for his top three golf courses in the UK. Here’s what he chose:
The Belfry Brabazon course
“The Brabazon is my favourite course. This is a little bit bias with it being close to home but having been lucky enough to play it a lot, it has a number of signature holes and is always enjoyable to play. Obviously being an ex-Ryder cup course as well shows its true quality! The Clubhouse has had a great new refurb in the last 5 years or so and has made it a great place to have a drink and food after your round of golf.”
“The Grove is a magnificent facility. The golf course is brilliant and has held plenty of major competitions over the years. Most recently the British masters. I was lucky enough to play it just before that competition and the course was in beautiful condition. An absolute must if you haven’t played it! Very much like The Belfry, it also has great facilities post round.”
Naturally, the MASHIE team couldn’t help but start to arrange events at these locations after hearing this. Chris, we hope you will be pleased to hear we have an event at Little Aston later this year and we look forward to releasing more events very soon.
Thank you very much to Chris Woakes for sharing his Cricket and Golfing insights with us and we wish him every success in the upcoming months.
